Kayaking Sognefjord

Oslo

Sognefjord is the second largest fjord in the world, and also the most beautiful and dramatic one. From the glaciers on the top of the mountains, down the steep mountainsides to green farmland and deep fjords it is a truly awe inspiring place.

The fjord stretches 205 km (127 miles) inland, reaches down to a max depth of 1308 meters below sea level and the mountains surrounding the fjord goes up to 2000 meters. The inner end of The Sognefjord is covered by Jostedalsbreen, continental Europe's largest glacier.

Some friends: Chunk (Steve Clarke), Frank (aka Julian Bennett), Fish (John Fisher), Greeny, John the roof (Walshy), Klugscheisser (John Shawyer), David Jenkins and ‘We have a space if anyone cares to join the party’, firmly entrenched in a mid-life crisis have decided to attempt to Kayak the length of the fjord over a 5 day period.

This will be harder than it sounds paddling on average 26 miles (an aquatic marathon) a day against the tide, wind and rain at times whilst dodging killer whales and cruise liners on the wider stretches of the fjord.

You will be glad to know this is not all in vain. The aim is to raise £8,000.00 for the Ellis Harriet Clark Foundation. The foundation was founded with the aim of making the lives of children suffering with cancer a little easier.

Fortunately providing they receive the proper diagnosis and

the right treatment, most kids with Osteosarcoma do recover.
